Thai Delegation Visit

A Thai delegation is coming to the Libraries on March 8 to give us a copy of the World Tipitaka (collection of 40 books that constitutes the Buddhist canon) that has recently been reprinted.  We are expecting about 25 people including a princess of the Thai royal family (she lives in DC), the Thai Ambassador to the US, members of the UW Thai Alumni Association and members of the Dhamma Society, responsible for the new
printing.

Here's the schedule for Monday, March 8, given what we know today:

  • 10:30am - half the group will go to OUGL for a 30 minute tour, half will stay in Suzzallo for a tour of the same length.
  • 11:00am - the groups switch between Suzzallo and OUGL for another 30 minute tour.
  • 11:30am - walk to the UW Club for lunch (hosted by the UW Alumni Association); noon -1:15pm
  • 1:30pm - Meet in Special Collections classroom with Sandra Kroupa and Prof. Richard Soloman to talk about the Buddhist scrolls that we have and to hear about Prof Soloman's research
  • 2:45pm - Move to the Petersen Room for the presentation of the Tipitika to the Libraries
  • 3-5pm - Petersen Room - Presentation & reception (we're expecting about 60 people).
