Remember that Reference Desk staff will, on occasion, give permission for someone to check out an otherwise non-circulating Reference book. These users should be instructed by the Ref Desk staff to bring the book to the Allen Info Desk. There will be a book band around the front cover, with the Ref Desk staff person's name and the due date for the book.
The steps at the Allen Info Desk:
- Check out as usual
- Override the non-circulating pop-up (click on yes)
- Change the due date to the one on the book band if that due date is different from the current day (which is what the system defaults to). [Let me know if you don't know how to do this.]
- Desensitize the book
- Tell the user they must return the book to the Allen Information Desk
When one of these books is returned, check it in and put it in either Marc-Albert's or my mailbox. If the book won't fit in our mailboxes, just leave it on the counter in front of my mailbox.
