To correct this, follow the cord to the CPU and unplug the reader from its USB port and plug it back in. This seems to correct it.

Magstripe Reader Stops Working at Allen North
Lately, the magstripe reader at the west work station stops working. The green light is on, but swiping a magstripe through the reader does nothing.
To correct this, follow the cord to the CPU and unplug the reader from its USB port and plug it back in. This seems to correct it.
