NetID Use in Browsers at the Information Desks

Here is what you should do to address the problem of needing to login to the Info Index with the pubdesk login and still being able to help people at the desks who may also need to login to a service with their own NetIDs:

Instead of using three different browsers, you can use the private browsing function in your preferred browser.

Private browsing creates a new, separate window in both Firefox and IE that isn't tied to any cookies, temp files, or history. Additionally, it doesn't save any of those items so every time you open a new private browsing window it acts as a self-contained session. This means you can have two windows of Firefox (one normal window and one private) and be logged into two separate NetIDs at once.

Note:
You must always close the private browsing window when you are done helping a user.
and
Never have more than one private browsing window open at a time.

Example:
  1. Open Alma in Chrome.
  2. Open Firefox and log in to the Info Index using the pubdesk login.
  3. When a user needs assistance, Open a new private browsing window in Firefox to help the user log in to his/her Library account.
  4. Once you are finished helping the user, close the private browsing window.
  5. When another user needs assistance, again open a new private browsing window.
  6. NetID information from the previous user is not saved in this new private browsing window.
This should always work unless you forget to close the private browsing window (which is easy to catch because private browsing windows are clearly identified in all browsers, as shown below):

Firefox:

IE:

Chrome:
