Humans vs. Zombies

The winter quarter Humans vs. Zombies tag game will begin on Monday, January 9th, and conclude on Friday, January 13th. This game has been played at UW for several years and there is usually very little disruption to the Libraries. We expect this year will be the same. The organizers have shared some information with us which may be of interest to all staff, particularly to those staffing public service desks.

Game information:

    • This quarter's game will begin at 6:00am every morning, and conclude at 5:00pm each night.
    • All players will be marked with bright orange bandanas located either on their upper arm or head.
    • Players may use toy foam dart blasters during the game, although these blasters may not be painted or disguised in any way.

Players are not to play the game indoors, although this has given rise to differing opinions on what is considered playing the game. For example, playing the game includes running, chasing, tagging, the use of toy blasters, or yelling to other players. Not playing the game includes walking through a building, or sitting in a hallway, even while wearing the orange bandanna.

If a game-related disruption is caused in a library, staff should ask the player(s) to identify themselves, which they are required to do. Staff should then file a report in the Security & Disruptions Database and Chelle Batchelor, Director of Access Services, will follow up.
