Print Job Overcharge

What I'm about to describe used to occur very rarely. Lately it's occurring more often...about 3 times in as many weeks. A user goes to the print station to release their print job and discovers they are being charged $3 or more per page. If they go ahead and click on 'Print' their account will be charged that amount; but only some, or possibly none of their job will actually print. This is caused by a glitch in the Pharos software when the print jobs contain mixed paper sizes that are not supported by the printer.

Here's the text I'm putting in the 'Print Station Troubleshooting' page in the Info Index, under the anchor name 'price overcharge':

  • User is being overcharged per page for print job (often $3 perpage or more)
  • Send user to OUGL Copy Center asking staff there to pull print job off the Allen Library print queue
  • Staff there will be able to print the job with appropriate pricing.

If the user goes ahead and clicks on 'Print' and does not get their print job (likely), they will still need to go to OUGL to get a refund for the amount they were charged for but which didn't print. You will need to give them the usual refund slip. I would recommend that they go ahead and resend their print job to OUGL Copy Center, so they can pick it up there when they go to get their refund.
