Pharos Printing Interruption

This coming weekend, August 23-24, Creative+Communications will be upgrading their Pharos printing server. This means that all the public computers will need to have new images with new printer drivers installed on them before printing will be possible from those computers.

Learning & Scholarly Technologies (LST) will be installing new images on all the Access+ computers in Suzzallo & Allen, OUGL, and (hopefully) Foster over this weekend. So, when these libraries open on Monday morning, printing should be as normal from Access+ computers. All other libraries with Access+ computers will be updated on Monday.

Printing from the Guest Research Stations (and all other Libraries ITS-supported computers), however, will not be available until Libraries ITS staff is able to install new images on these PCs -- which will be done in Suzzallo & Allen first, starting on Monday morning. After Suzzallo & Allen, ITS staff will be going to OUGL to reimage their guest PCs. They will then move out to the branches, going first to the branches that only have ITS-supported public computers. It's possible that some locations (branches) will be without public printing (on site) for at least a week. Of course, users needing to print from these locations will be able to choose another location to send their print jobs to.

Another effect of this print server change is that all wireless printing will fail. Wireless printing users will not know that the failure has occurred until they go to the print station they selected and do not find their print jobs there. They will need to go to the Dawg Prints wireless printing Web site and download the upgraded printer drivers. Signs explaining all this are now posted by every print station, and there will be a alert about this on the Dawg Prints Website by tomorrow, August 22. Even though the Dawg Prints Web address has now changed to dawgprints.washington.edu, users going to dawg-prints.com will be automatically redirected to the new address.

After the new images have been installed, you will see that the printer which the public computers default to throughout almost all Suzzallo & Allen will be called ALLEN_SUZZALLO and ALLEN_SUZZALLO_2-SIDED (instead of just ALLEN_LIBRARY, as it is now). This is to alleviate some of the confusion for folks wanting to pick up their print jobs on Suzzallo 1st floor.

As usual, let me know if you have any questions.
