Good Monday morning! I wanted to update you regarding the status of the book move and consolidation of collections.
We officially moved the first book on Thursday July 9 and are making some progress. A - BL 1215 is now shelved on Suzzallo 4th floor. We've moved about 98,000 books into their final locations. I anticipate that we will finish moving BL today. Concurrently, we are also compacting the books on First Allen South. This is to make room for the Z call numbers.
If you've been in the stacks on 4th floor, you'll see my first challenge - call number U as well as the rest of PR - Z are in the way of the BM call numbers. So, we will shift focus and put priority on the First Allen South shift so we can make room for S-Z. At the same time, we will begin moving other call numbers in the stacks to make room for the PR, PS, & PT call numbers which either start or end a floor. If you want to know the plan thus far, please email me as I don't want to overwhelm with details in this email.
We're in the process of hiring more student employees as we're rather understaffed for this and we're looking for students who can work beyond Summer interim. We don't want just summer project students, but students for the long haul. If you know any good students who would like to get paid to workout, send them my way!
Oh yes, Kane Hall. The integration of Kane Hall (Chem & Fish) materials is moving along. We've integrated F - G and QK - Z. We're still pulling Dewey books for reclassification and have many trucks of books to re-label, integrate, and shelve.
As a reminder, if you want to follow the move on a daily basis, be sure to check out my Twitter page at www.twitter.com/kirstenuw. I provide fairly regular updates as to what we're doing there. As always, if you have a question, just let me know.
Thanks for listening. Have a great Monday!
