Students, staff, faculty needing to print from laptops need to download printer drivers to there laptops before they can print. Search for 'dawgprints' in the info index. Click on the link 'wireless printing map' (under the heading 'about us'). A map of campus will appear with purple balloons that designate all the wireless printers available on campus. Click on the balloons over Suzzallo to download the printer drivers. Use this as a visual aid when showing students/staff how to find the printer drivers, **they will have to duplicate the search on their laptop to actually download the drivers. After clicking on the purple balloons, they will see options for linux, windows, mac they usually know from which one to click.
My quick and dirty (and somewhat fullproof) directions to students:
>From the student's laptop:
>bring up the UW homepage
>search for : "wireless printing map" click on that link
>look for Suzzallo library on the campus map
>click on the balloons for single and duplex printing, color and black and white
>select from linux, windows, mac (whichever matches their equipment)
99% of the time they know what to do from there.
Occasionally there are problems with the MAC drivers. The help desk at OUGL has a MAC software upgrade that students can request and get help installing. If you/they are feeling adventurous you can direct them to the troubleshooting link of the dawgprints homepage. (it's the last option under the heading 'about us'. The information is in the 1st known issue : for MAC 10.6 users. The student will have to fill out a brief survey before they can download the software, then click on software upgrade.
If anyone would like an in person demo, please let me know when you are on desk and I'll be happy to show you...
