"WCN item not available" Summit error message

This is a reminder message regarding a Summit "known issue."  Patrons requesting items from off-campus still sometimes receive a "WCN item not available. Go back to item" error message when requesting Summit items. This was reported to OCLC back in October, but is yet unresolved.

When helping a patron encountering this message, please take the following steps:
  1. As we suspect this error is related to browser configuration, as a first step ask the patron to clear their browser cache and cookies.
  2. If this does not resolve the problem, ask them to close all browser windows and then re-try.
  3. Ask the patron to try to request the item through http://www.summit.worldcat.org/.
  4. If this still does not resolve the problem, please report this error touwsummit@uw.edu. It's especially helpful to know the OCLC number of the item they were requesting, time of day, what browser and OS they were using, whether the request worked in http://www.summit.worldcat.org/, and any other details.
  5. Ask the patron to re-request the item when on campus, to try again the next day, or to place an ILL request for this item and put "Summit failed" in the notes field.
The more examples we have of this problem, the easier it will be for OCLC to troubleshoot the issue.
Thank you!  ~ Heidi
