Swith to UW WorldCat and Off-Campus Access
- UW WorldCat Search Scope The UW WorldCat scope will
include UW, Summit, WorldCat, and Gallagher Law Library, which is now
part of UW Libraries rather than a Summit partner. It will also include
select databases, which can be viewed in UW WorldCat advanced search. UW
Bothell and UW Tacoma will not have separate search scopes.
- UW Libraries Search Beta (Primo) Search Scope When
we launch UW WorldCat, the new default search scope for UW Libraries
Search beta will be “Articles, Books and More” instead of “UW libraries
and Summit,” which was the default scope for much of the Summer. Neither
EBSCO nor WorldCat will be included in the search scope of UW Libraries
Search Beta.
- Off-Campus Access ButtonThere isn’t one any more.
Users will no longer have to remember to click on the red “off-campus
access” box in order to retrieve UW-restricted materials. Instead, they
will be prompted automatically to enter their UW Net ID when trying to
access these sources. The Health Sciences Library may be keeping their
off-campus access button, so be aware that users needing help accessing
resources from that site may still need to use it.
- “View Now” Option in UW WorldCat When you search
for articles in UW WorldCat, you will notice that there is a “View Now”
link under many of the results that will allow you to access the item
without clicking into the full record. Some results however, do not have
this link which may lead some users to think that they we don’t have
access to the article, which is not always the case. When the “View Now”
link is not present, encourage users to click on the link to the record
and use the “Check For Full-Text” or “View Full-Text” links under “Find
a Copy Online.”
- EBooks Not all of our ebooks are currently showing
up in UW WorldCat, but we are working to resolve this as soon as
possible. If you are looking for a known ebook item and it's not showing
up, look in UW Libraries Search beta, where all of our ebook holdings
are available.
