Because of some changes Microsoft is making in regards to clearing out stored NetIDs after about a year of no use, we may see more returning UW students (I’m thinking this will especially effect Access Program students) whose NetIDs don’t allow them to login to the Student Workstations. Generally, they will be able to login to MyUW and to register for classes; but they won’t be able to login to the student workstations here or in Odegaard.
If you ever experience something like this, it’s always a good idea to ask the person their current status at the UW (student, faculty, staff, etc.). If they state they are a returning student, it’s likely this is what they are running into. Direct them to the NetID Website and have them go through the process of resetting their password. This will probably solve the problem, though it may take several hours to go into effect. If after that it continues to be a problem for them, have them contact UW IT by calling 206-221-5000 or by emailing help@uw.edu. Phoning would be quicker.
