Phantom E-Books in WorldCat

Patrons (and library staff) are confused about ebooks in WorldCat that say they are at UW, but have no links to the online version.  Many of these are part of the Orbis/Cascade DDA, the joint pilot project to purchase consortial ebooks.  Records for these books will not be added to Millenium and there is a 4 - 8 week delay in getting the links for UW added to WorldCat.

How to spot these?  First page of WorldCat says UW Libraries, but no links are under UW Libraries in the record.  When you click Show All Links from Other libraries, you might see Ebook Library or public.eblib.com.  If the Summit list looks long for the book, that is another clue.  Under WorldWide libraries own this item, look for a holding for "Orbis Cascade Alliance Demand Driven."

To get to a working link for the ebook, go back to the Summit list and pick Portland State.  Their link usually says "Connect to this title online (restricted to PSU and Summit Library users)."  UW users will have to authenticate by selecting their institution, and entering a UW NetID, if they haven't already. Then the ebook should work for them.

here's an example of such a book:
